Women′s Movement(s) in Turkey: A Brief Overview (1996, in English)
The question of the status of women and women’s movements in Muslim communities has drawn increasing attention in recent years. This booklet sketches a picture of the status of the women’s movement in Turkey, including its historical roots and its present scope, taking a critical approach to describing the movement within the context of prevailing political discourses. It outlines an analysis of how these discourses constitute a continuation of the historical debates among Islam, nationalism and Westernization.
