- Desiring to reach as many potential program participants as possible, a protocol was signed with a state agency, the General Directorate of Social Services (GDSS) in 1998. The third Trainer Training was held with social workers, psychologists, and health professionals employed by the GDSS at various Community Centers in five provinces of Turkey.
- HREP proved to be a valuable capacity-building tool for both the trainers working in their local setting, and the main offices of the GDSS in Ankara, the capital. There was great demand from the field from GDSS staff across Turkey, for continued Trainer Training Seminars.
- This was very much in line with WWHR-New Ways’ goal of program expansion. Trainer Training Seminars were held in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2013. While only GDSS staff was trained until 2000, applicants from local organizing initiatives that grew out of HREP were also included in the Trainer Training Seminars from 2002 onwards. In 2013, the Trainer Training Seminar was held with activist women from women’s NGOs, and Women’s Counseling Centers attached to Municipalities.
- Currently there are over 190 HREP trainers in 52 provinces across Turkey, and two in Northern Cyprus. In addition to local group implementations, HREP trainers have also worked with women attending vocational courses in partnership with the International Labor Organization and the Employment Agency, and teachers of Quran courses in collaboration with the Presidency of Religious Affairs.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of all HREP trainers, some 12,000 women have been able to benefit from the program to date, and this number is continually growing.
